All-Female Miles Franklin 2013 Shortlist

With the announcement of the Miles Franklin Award Winner coming up in less than a month’s time, attention has turned to the all-female short-list. For the first time in the Award’s 57 year history, women have dominated the long-list by a 4:1 ratio and have gone on to take the entire short-list. Simon Lewis, who spoke on behalf of The Trust Company which manages the estate of the late Miles Franklin said:

The shortlist demonstrates how strong Australia’s pipeline of female literary talent really is, as witnessed with last year’s Miles Franklin winner, Anna Funder, as well as by the growing number of first time female authors included in the long and shortlists in recent years…

The short-listed authors and their works include:

Romy Ash – Floundering
Annah Faulkner – The Beloved
Michelle de Kretser – Questions Of Travel
Drusilla Modjeska – The Mountain
Carrie Tiffany – Mateship With Birds

Writer’s Edit would like to congratulate all the authors who participated this year, as well as the short-listed candidates.
