Bestselling Books, Launching Courses and Smashing Goals: 2017 in Review

Well folks, we’ve done it again – another twelve crazy months have gone by, another whirlwind year for Writer’s Edit and Writer’s Edit Press.

We celebrated our fourth birthday, and have had some massive changes and some even bigger achievements, so let’s take a look back…

Bestselling Books, Launching Courses and Smashing Goals: 2017 in Review

Launching Talem Press

As many of you know, Writer’s Edit Press has published three creative writing anthologies over the years. The Kindling series was our first foray into print and ebook publishing, and we’re incredibly proud of what these books achieved.

In 2017, we started a different publishing venture with Talem Press, our new fantasy imprint. Talem is the latin word for ’empower’, which is exactly what our books and authors aim to do. We publish exciting, adventurous fantasy books, with a focus on female agency.

Talem Press released its (and my) first book, Heart of Mist on August 31st.

The title went on to become an Amazon bestseller in under 24 hours, and has received rave reviews from bloggers all over the world.

Talem Press will publish the second and third books in The Oremere Chronicles in 2018 and 2019. The small press will be open for general submission in 2018. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months.

Staff updates and thanks

One of the biggest changes of the year was having our Editorial Assistant, Claire Bradshaw step up into the role of Editor. Claire has played a fundamental role in the successes of Writer’s Edit this year. Her hard work, dedication and kindness have seen our writers flourish under her guidance.

From the entire team at Writer’s Edit, I’d like to say a massive, special thank you to Claire for all her amazing work.

We’d also like to thank our long-serving writers, Daniel Murphy and Kyla Jo Bagnall. Both Dan and Kyla have been with us from very early on in the Writer’s Edit story and have written incredible articles for us over the years.

Dan has recently decided to step down from his writing role with us, he’s off travelling on his honeymoon! A big congratulations to Dan and his partner, Morgan on their marriage earlier this month!

Of course, another big thank you is due to Jenny Ryan, who interned with us as our Editorial Assistant for the first half of the year. Jenny helped us with numerous aspects of running Writer’s Edit and our social media content. Jenny, it was an absolute pleasure working with you, and we’re stoked you’re enjoying the new job at Reading Australia.

Many thanks to the numerous contributors over the past 12 months: Maggie, Emma, Mihaela, Rosalind, Bookcase Australia, and Kate Lloyd from Lilytales.

And as always, thank you to our Head of Tech, Dave Hickman, who works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure W.E. is as efficient and streamlined as possible.

What’s in store for 2018?

2018 is set to be a big year for Writer’s Edit and all of our ventures. Talem Press will be publishing the second book in my YA fantasy trilogy The Oremere Chronicles.

Stay tuned for more news about Talem Press in the months to come!

We’re also currently working on some awesome software for our readers, I can’t say more right now, but guys – it’s going to be epic!

We’ve also got more courses in the works! Yep – we’re aiming to smash 2018 outta the park as well!

That’s a wrap

2017 has been a whirlwind adventure for myself and the whole Writer’s Edit team, and we’re so excited for everything to come in the new year.

However, for the time being, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s supported us over the last 12 months.

Whether you’ve shared a post on social media, written an article for us, purchased one of our books, or sent us a warm fuzzy email, your support means the absolute world to us.

To our readers all around the globe, thank you. There would be no Writer’s Edit without you. Your support and encouragement make our jobs rewarding in every way.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, and an incredible New Year!
