
At the age of 28, Eleanor Catton has become the youngest ever winner of the Man Booker Prize with her novel The Luminaries. The young author beat the other shortlisted novels: We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulawayo, Harvest by Jim Crace, The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri, A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki and The Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin, who all receive £2,500 and a hand-bound copy of their book. Catton walks away with this prize as a shortlisted author but also a further cash prize of £50,000.
