UNO Press Publishing Lab Prize

The UNO Press Lab is accepting previously unpublished submissions of book-length fiction. The winning author will receive a $1000USD advance and a contract to publish with UNO Press. Entry fee is $18. Entries close 15th August.

Hachette Australia Manuscript Development Program

Australian authors of commercial adult and young adult fiction and non-fiction are invited to submit themselves for consideration for the Hachette Australia Manuscript Development Program. Up to 10 writers are selected to take part in a four-day retreat, during which Hachette Australia publishers, editors and authors provide direct feedback on their manuscripts. Entry fee is $55AUD. Submissions close 17th August.

Aesthetica Creative Writing Award

Aesthetica Magazine's international literary prize is now open for entries in two categories: short fiction (up to 2000 words) and poetry (no more than 40 lines). Winners in each category receive £1000 cash, a consultation with literary agency, membership to The Poetry Society, a subscription to Granta and a book pack. Entry fees are £18 for short fiction and £12 for poetry. Entries close 31st August.

The BookLife Prize

An annual writing contest sponsored by BookLife and Publishers Weekly, this prize seeks entries of unpublished or self-published novels in six categories: Romance/Erotica; Mystery/Thriller; Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror; General Fiction; Memoir/Autobiography; and Middle-Grade & YA Fiction. Grand prize winner receives $5000USD and a profile in Publishers Weekly. Semifinalists receive a blurb for their book from a bestselling or award-winning author and a mention in Publishers Weekly. Entry fee is $99. Entries close 31st August.

Feminartsy Memoir Prize for Women Writers

Feminartsy welcomes entries from Australian women writers for its 2018 memoir prize. Personal essays or creative non-fiction  based in the author’s personal experience will be accepted (1500-word limit). First prize is $600AUD and a book prize pack; a highly commended entry receives $300 and a book prize pack. Entries close 31st August.

Kindle Storyteller Prize

The Kindle Storyteller contest is open to authors who publish in any genre in English on Kindle Direct Publishing. Each finalist will receive a Kindle e-reader; one Grand Prize winner will receive a cash prize of £20,000, a marketing campaign to support the book on, the opportunity to have their book translated for international sales and a mentoring session with a bestselling KDP author. Entries close 31st August.

Saveas Writers' International Writing Competition

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Saveas Writers welcomes poems and stories in the Gothic tradition for its international writing competition. Writers may enter prose up to 2500 words or poems up to 60 lines. First prize is £200, second prize is £100 and third prize is £50. Entry fee for each story is £4 or £10 for 3; entry fee for each poem is £3 or £8 for three. Entries close 31st August.

Sisters in Crime Australia's 25th Scarlet Stiletto Awards

Sisters in Crime welcomes crime and mystery short stories written by Australian women for its Scarlet Stiletto Awards. Stories must not exceed 5000 words and must feature a strong female protagonist. There are 14 separate awards, totalling almost $10,000AUD in prize money. Entry fee is $25. Entries close 31st August.

WOW! Women On Writing Summer Flash Fiction Contest

WOW! Women on Writing is open to entries of flash fiction between 250–750 words for its summer contest. Open theme. First prize is $400USD, second $300 and third $200, with seven runners-up and 10 honourable mentions. Entry fee is $10. Entries close 31st August.

Talem Press Fantasy Novel Submissions

Our very own fantasy fiction imprint, Talem Press, is now open for submissions! We're looking for full-length fantasy manuscripts – bonus points if they involve unlikely heroines, mysterious magic and out-of-this-world storytelling. Read the guidelines and submit here.
