Disney | ABC Writing Program

The Disney | ABC Writing Program is one of the entertainment industry's most successful writer programs. Successful applicants become employees of Disney│ABC Television Group (DATG) and will be paid a weekly salary of $961.54USD. Applications must include an original pilot script, a spec script, a resume and an essay. Applicants must be able to legally work in the United States and be at least 21 years of age. Applications close 2nd June.

The Big Issue Fiction Submissions

Australian magazine The Big Issue is currently open for submissions to its annual fiction edition. Entries of short stories from all genres are invited from writers of any age. Stories should be between 300 and 3000 words. Entry is free (postal only, no online entries) and each author published will receive $500AUD. Entries close 5th June.

Hunter Writers Centre Grieve Writing Competition

The Hunter Writers Centre  500 word story or a poem up to 36 lines. Over $7000AUD in prizes on offer and over 150 entries will be published in the anthology. Entry fee $16.50AUD. Australian entries only. Entries close 9th June.

Bath Flash Fiction Award

The Bath Flash Fiction Award is accepting entries for its 2017 contest. Entries must be under 300 words. First prize is £1000, second £300 and third £100. Two commendations of £30 each will also be awarded. 50 longlisted entrants will be offered publication. £9 for one entry, £15 for two and £18 for three. Closes 11th June.

Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color Award

Sisters in Crime invites entries to the Eleanor Taylor Bland Crime Fiction Writers of Color Award. A grant of $1500USD will be awarded to an emerging writer of colour who submits an unpublished work of crime fiction. Applications close 15th June.

Fiction Magazine Submissions

Fiction magazine is currently accepting unsolicited manuscripts. Entrants are encouraged to stay under 5000 words but fiction manuscripts of any length will be read. Submissions close 15th June.

Creative Nonfiction 'Starting Over' Submissions

Submissions are open for an upcoming issue of Creative Nonfiction. The magazine is looking for 'true stories about starting over'. Essays must be previously unpublished and no longer than 4000 words, and must tell true stories/be factually accurate. $3USD fee for online submissions. Entries close 19th June.




Mslexia Women’s Pamphlet Competition

Mslexia is open for entries to its pamphlet competition – short collections of 20-24 pages of 18-20 poems are eligible. First prize is publication of the pamphlet by Seren Books in 2017, plus £250, 25 complimentary copies of the pamphlet and a 10% royalty on sales. Open to women of any nationality, from any country. Entry fee: £20 per pamphlet. Entries close 19th June.

The Brighton Prize

The 2017 Brighton Prize is now open in two categories. Short stories between 1000–2000 words will be in the running for a £1000 first prize and two runner-up prizes of £100 each. The flash fiction category requires entries under 350 words and offers £100 for first prize and £50 for two runners-up. Winning and shortlisted stories will be offered publication in an anthology.Entries close 30th June.

Newcastle Poetry Prize

The Hunter Writers Centre is now open for entries to the 2017 Newcastle Poetry Prize. Maximum 200 line limit. First prize is $15,000AUD, second prize $5000 and third prize $1000. Entry fee is $34AUD. Australian entrants only. Entries close 30th June.

The Richell Prize for Emerging Writers

Hachette, The Guardian and the Emerging Writers Festival are looking for the first three chapters of an unpublished manuscript. Entrants must be Australian residents aged 18 or older, and the winner will receive $10,000 plus a 12-month mentorship with one of Hachette's publishers. Applications are open from now until 3rd July.
