Writer's Digest Poetry Awards

Writer's Digest is open for entries of any poem 32 lines or less. Twenty-five winners and runners-up will receive cash, publication and other prizes. Entries close 3rd October.

The Griffith Review Issue 56

Submissions are now open for Griffith Review 56: Millennials Strike Back. This special edition is devoted to the challenges and opportunities the millennial generation is facing and embracing. Pitches and drafts will be accepted for essays, memoir and reportage – for fiction and poetry, only complete pieces will be considered. Deadline for pitches is 7th October; deadline for completed unsolicited pieces is 5th December.

The Writer's New Writer Awards – Sequestrum

The Writer seeks entries for its 2016 New Writer Awards. Two $200 first-prize winners (one fiction/nonfiction, one poetry), plus minimum of two runner-up prizes per genre. All winners and runners-up awarded publication. 12,000 word limit for prose, 40 lines for poetry. $15USD entry fee. Entries close 15th October.

Bath Flash Fiction Award

Submissions for the Bath Flash Fiction Award are now open. 300 word limit. £1000 prize for the winner, £300 for second and £100 for third. 50 longlisted entrants offered publication in print and digital anthology. Entries close midnight GMT 16th October.

The Great Flash Fiction War

The Great Flash Fiction War is a three-day writing contest in which entrants are provided with a story prompt and three days in which to craft their entry. First place receives $2000USD, 14 finalists receive $100USD, and all 15 finalists will be published in the 2016 Fall Fiction War Anthology. $40USD entry fee. Late entry deadline 20th October.

UCG International Literary Prize

Open to writers worldwide, the UCG International Literary Prize seeks short stories between 2000 and 4000 words. The theme for this year's award is 'Conflict'. First prize is £500, second £100 and third £50. The winner and two runners-up will be published in an anthology of short stories with worldwide distribution. Entries close 30th October.

Bare Fiction Prize

Now in its third year, the Bare Fiction Prize is open for international entries of poetry (max 40 lines), flash fiction (max 500 words) and short stories (max 3000 words). Prizes in each category include publication and cash. Small entry fee for each submission. Entries close 31st October.




New Wrinkle Publishing Contest

New Wrinkle is hosting a contest for writers of all ages, all around the world. The winner will receive illustrations, an original book soundtrack, a full publishing package, including professional editing and interior/exterior book design, all inspired by their story. Entries close 28 November.

Flash500 Novel Opening Chapter & Synopsis Competition

If you've started or completed a novel, Flash500 is looking for an opening chapter up to 3,000 words, plus a one-page synopsis outlining the balance of the story, for its annual competition. Judged by senior editors from Crooked Cat Publishing. Winner will receive £500 and runner-up £200. Entry fee is £10/€13. Entries close 31st October.

The Creative Competitor's Spine-Chilling Fiction Writing Competition

Open internationally, this competition seeks entries of short horror stories (1000 words maximum). First prize is £500, second is £300, third is £200 and fourth is £100. £3.50 entry fee. Entries close 31st October.

Commonwealth Short Story Prize

The 2017 Commonwealth Short Story Prize is now open for entries. The Prize is awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction (2000–5000 words) in English written by a citizen of a Commonwealth country. Regional winners receive £2500 and the overall winner receives £5000. Entries close 1st November.

Caledonia Novel Award

Edinburgh-based, international award for unpublished and self-published debut novelists. Entries are accepted in all genres for adults and young adults and must be at least 50,000 words in length. Prize is £1000. Entries close 1st November.

Writer's Digest Short Short Story Competition

Writer's Digest seeks entries of short stories under 1500 words for its annual Short Short Story competition. Twenty-five winners and runners-up will receive cash, publication and other prizes. Entries close 15th November.

The Matador Review

Online literature and art journal, The Matador Review, seeks submissions for its next issue, the Winter 2017 publication. Fiction and creative non-fiction under 10,000 words, flash fiction under 1000 words, and poetry (up to 6 poems) are accepted. Call for submissions ends 30th November.
