Foreshadow YA Anthology Submissions

Submissions are now open for FORESHADOW: A Serial YA Anthology, which will be published monthly online from January–December 2019. Each issue will feature three original young adult stories. Submissions must be previously unpublished, run between 2000–7000 words and feature a single-word title that offers a suggestion of what to expect. Submissions for first round close 1st September.

Writer’s Digest Self-Published Ebook Awards

Writer’s Digest is open for entries to its 6th Annual Self-Published Ebook Awards, honouring the best self-published ebook(s) in eight categories: Contemporary Fiction, Romance, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery/Thriller, Memoir, Young Adult and Nonfiction. $13,000USD in total cash prizes on offer, with grand prize including $5000, a featured interview in Writer’s Digest magazine, and a paid trip to the Writer’s Digest Annual Conference. Fee for first entry is $125; each additional entry $95. Entries close 4th September.

Adventures in Fiction New Voices Competition

Adventures in Fiction's New Voices Competition offers a start-up package worth £550 to the most promising novel synopsis and first page from a first-time writer. Package includes a manuscript appraisal, guidelines, a development strategy and a consultation. £10 entry fee. Entries close 14th September.

Manchester Fiction Prize

The Manchester Writing Competition welcomes entries to its 2018 Fiction Prize. Short stories up to 2500 words accepted from writers of any nationality above 16 years of age. First prize is £10,000. Entry fee is £17.50. Entries close 14th September.

Writer’s Digest Popular Fiction Awards

Writer's Digest is open for entries to its  14th Annual Writer’s Digest Popular Fiction Awards. Short stories up to 4000 words in the categories of Romance, Thriller, Crime, Horror, Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Young Adult are accepted. Prizes include $2500USD, a featured interview in Writer’s Digest magazine, and a paid trip to the ever-popular Writer’s Digest Annual Conference. Earlybird entry fee is $25 per story; each additional entry $20. Earlybird entries close 14th September.

Grindstone International Short Story and Novel Prizes

Grindstone Literary Agency is currently open for entries to its Short Story and Novel Prizes. Entrants are invited to submit up to 3000 words of short fiction or the opening chapter (up to 3000 words) of a novel. Grand prizes are £500 for the Short Story Prize and £1000 for the Novel Prize, with runner-up prizes of £50 and £100 respectively. Entry fees are £10 for short stories and £20 for novel excerpts. Entries close 28th September.

Dzanc Books Prize for Fiction

Dzanc Books seeks entries of daring, original, and innovative novels for its 2018 Prize for Fiction. Previously unpublished novel-length manuscripts accepted. Winner receives a $5000USD advance and publication in 2019 by Dzanc Books. $25 submission fee. Entries close 30th September.

Dzanc Books Short Story Collection Competition

Dzanc Books is currently seeking imaginative and inventive writing in book-length collections for its Short Story Collection Competition. Previously unpublished collections accepted. Winner receives a $2500USD advance and publication in 2019 by Dzanc Books. $25 submission fee. Entries close 30th September.

The Ghost Story Supernatural Fiction Award

The Ghost Story Supernatural Fiction Award is open for submissions of full-length short stories on a supernatural theme. Stories between 1,500 and 10,000 words accepted, ranging from ghost stories through to any paranormal or supernatural theme, as well as magic realism. Winner receives $1000USD and online/print publication; two honourable mentions receive publication and $250 cash prizes. Entries close 30th September.

Mslexia Women’s Fiction Awards

Mslexia is currently open for entries to its 2018 Women's Fiction Awards in the categories of Short Story and Flash Fiction. Short stories between 300–3000 words and flash fiction up to 300 words accepted. First prize for Short Story Competition is £5000, with three finalists each receiving £100; £10 entry fee per story. First prize for Flash Fiction Competition is £500, with three finalists each receiving £50; £5 entry fee per story. All winners receive publication in Mslexia. Entries close 1st October.

Talem Press Fantasy Novel Submissions

Our very own fantasy fiction imprint, Talem Press, is now open for submissions! We're looking for full-length fantasy manuscripts – bonus points if they involve unlikely heroines, mysterious magic and out-of-this-world storytelling. Read the guidelines and submit here. Submission period closes 12th October.

Buzz Words Short Story Prize

Buzz Words, the twice monthly online magazine for those in the children's book industry, is open for entries to its inaugural Short Story Prize for Australian adults writing for children. Stories should be for children aged 8 to 11 years. 1500-word limit. First prize winner receives $1000AUD; second prize receives $500. $10 entry fee. Entries close 31st December.
